Plot summary
Lincoln, known as Link, is in his late teens and lives in a trailer park with Arvin, his abusive father, and Travis, his younger half-brother. Told all his life that his mother Sarah was dead, he learns after a beating that she is alive, and the two brothers run off to find her. At a store they meet Pasmay, a Mi'kmaq powwow dancer, who steps in when a clerk accuses Link of stealing and drives them away from Arvin. Pasmay takes an interest in Link, who brushes him off at first, and the three travel together in Pasmay's car. Pasmay offers to guide Link back to the Mi'kmaw heritage he was raised without, and teaches Travis words of the language.
