Plot summary
Jose Alberto Cruz, nicknamed Tango, comes from the barrio, where persecution and torture are part of daily life. In late 1960s Buenos Aires, his songs of love and freedom fill underground clubs and inspire a generation of young people, and he shares the students' activist views. Police detain him during a student demonstration, and there he meets Mariana, a student devoted to the cause but bound to her bourgeois origins. The two overcome their class differences and fall in love. As his following grows, the police chief wants to use him as a pawn to find the leaders of the growing youth movement.

- Director Marcelo Piñeyro could not get the rights to any of Tanguito's own songs, including his iconic "La balsa", so the film uses other classic Argentine rock songs instead.

- The film is loosely based on the life of Tanguito, one of the first Argentine rock artists. His name was a stage name, and neither the artist nor the movie has anything to do with tango music.
