Valentin (2002) on Netflix

Plot summary

Valentín is eight, cross-eyed and near-sighted, and lives in Buenos Aires with his grandmother after his parents divorced. His mother no longer lives with them and he barely remembers her, though he misses her. His father, Vincente, sells for a living and is often on the road, and he visits rarely. Valentín follows the space race and intends to become an astronaut: he assembles rocket models and a space suit, walks in heavy shoes to mimic zero gravity, holds his breath underwater, and believes his efforts help NASA. What he wants most is Vincente at home and married to Leticia, the woman Vincente is seeing, so that the household would be a family. Around him are his uncle Chiche, visiting from Ushuaia, and Rufo, the pianist who lives across the street.
