Plot summary
Len and Jenny Maynard move to Yorkshire in 1974 with their 13-year-old daughter Sally. Sally sees the ghost of a young girl and a demonic monk in the house. The family understand that the home already holds a violent supernatural force. Sally's teacher, Mr Price, learns that a murdered girl's spirit has attached itself to the family and tells Len. Jenny and Len bring in an investigator of the paranormal and a priest to help them clear the presence.

- According to the filmmakers, the film is loosely based on the claimed "Black Monk of Pontefract" poltergeist haunting at 30 East Drive, Pontefract, West Yorkshire, where a family reported things being thrown around, freezing rooms, water puddles and noises, and a daughter supposedly dragged upstairs by her neck.
- The Pontefract haunting stayed locally popular but "largely unknown elsewhere" until the author Colin Wilson wrote a book about it in 1981, which gained it notoriety among paranormal aficionados.
