Plot summary
Jimmy Muir works at the Stones Brewery, in a northern town where the only options are the pit or a factory. He dreams instead of becoming a professional footballer. His father, Joe, is bitter and unsupportive of the ambition, his friends drink heavily, and Jimmy has bad habits of his own to carry. The non-league side Hallam F.C. scouts him first.
