Plot summary
Nisha is sixteen and lives with her family in Oslo. With her Norwegian friends she plays basketball, goes to parties and drinks, and she has a boyfriend named Daniel. At home she keeps to the role her traditional Pakistani Muslim family expects of a daughter. One night her father, Mirza, finds her with Daniel in her room and beats him. The screams bring the neighbors, who call the police, and Nisha is placed with a child welfare agency. Mirza believes the two had sex and offers to let her come home if she marries Daniel; she says they did not. Family friends in the Pakistani community press him to act, warning that she will rebel further. Fearing for the family's reputation, Mirza takes Nisha to Pakistan, where he leaves her with his sister.
