Plot summary
Richard Karlsen has finished at the fee-paying school on Dublin's Southside where he played rugby on its Senior Cup team, and he and his friends have one summer left before university begins. He becomes interested in Lara Hogan, who is going out with Conor Harris, a former teammate of his, and she comes to return his feelings, which sours his friendship with Conor. Both of them are at a party in a wealthy suburb when Conor shows up unannounced. Richard is envious of the platonic closeness that Lara and Conor still share, and as the night goes on he keeps drinking.
