Lars Mikkelsen
Biography
Lars Mikkelsen is a Danish actor who came to the stage by an unusual route. Born in Gladsaxe near Copenhagen, he did nine months of basic military service in the Royal Guards infantry regiment, then began studying biology before dropping out and enrolling in a juggler school, where he learned juggling and fire breathing. He spent five years touring Europe as a street performer and later picked up pantomime and children's theater through a children's circus. At 27 he trained at the Statens Teaterskole in Copenhagen from 1991 to 1995 and made his acting debut in Dracula at the Aalborg Theater. He has appeared in more than 40 plays as well as in films and television series, drawing wider notice as Troels Hartmann in the crime series Forbrydelsen (2007), which led to roles in Sherlock (2010), House of Cards (2013) and The Team (2015). He has received various nominations and awards.
