Plot summary
In a small Nova Scotia town, Blaise and Nessa are known as outcasts and rely on methadone. Each day they take an old, rusted lawnmower through the streets and stop at houses to ask for lawn-mowing work. Nessa is planning a way out of the town, holding on to the idea that she can leave. Blaise, by contrast, is not improving; he appears to be drifting nearer to a collapse. Their lives are connected so tightly that neither can easily break away. Any dream of escape they share is hemmed in by that bond and stays barely out of reach.
