Plot summary
In 2063, with climate change making Earth harder to live on, astrophysicists locate a habitable planet and send a scouting mission. The trip will take about 86 years, so the crew's children and grandchildren are meant to finish it. The ship Humanitas carries 30 young people conceived through IVF from donors chosen for genius and raised in isolation. Richard, the program commander, travels with them to guide the early years. The plan calls for the crew to conceive by IVF at 24, and for each generation to do the same. Ten years into the voyage, Christopher and Zac learn that a chemical added to the food holds down the crew's sex drive and pleasure response.
