Plot summary

In Chicago, Dorothy Bryant rehearses a stage show with her Melody Maids, the guitarist Wanda, trumpet player Jackie and clarinet player Babe, until the money runs out. Dorothy has inherited a Utah ranch she has never seen and decides to sell it to fund the production, so she, the girls and Stella Mason, their wardrobe woman, head west. Roy has been running her Bar X with the Sons of the Pioneers as ranch hands, and the profitable spread adjoins the run-down, rocky ranch of his friend Gabby. Cattle broker Ben Bowman offers Roy a share of a scheme to fleece Dorothy, and Roy fights him and his henchman Steve Lacey.
