Plot summary
Derek Echevaro studies mathematics at the University of Cincinnati and is still troubled by a sighting from his childhood that he believes was a UFO. In 2017 a craft appears over Cincinnati International Airport and interferes with the air traffic control broadcast. Explanations are released that dismiss it, first as a drone and then as a Gulfstream IV, and Derek's calculations rule both out. His fixation strains his friendships with his roommates Lee and Natalie. Franklin Ahls, who holds a senior post on a secret FBI committee that studies aerial phenomena, takes an interest in Derek's work. Derek asks his mathematics professor, Dr. Rebecca Hendricks, for help with the signal.
