Plot summary
'Dodger' Lane, 'Jelly' Knight and Lennie Price are serving the last of their sentences when a visitor claiming to be a vicar comes looking for work for them on release. He is Soapy Stevens, a conman with a diamond robbery in mind. The scheme would give all three an alibi, since they would be locked up when the theft happened, so the men plan to leave the prison, pull off the job and return. Dodger's girlfriend Ethel and Lennie's mother help with the escape, and the new Chief Prison Officer, Sidney Crout, keeps firm discipline at the prison, where Horatio Bennett is the Governor.
