Plot summary
Gerald Clamson is a bank examiner who takes two weeks each year to fish. Off a San Diego beach he hooks an injured scuba diver, a gangster named Syd Valentine who looks exactly like him. Syd hands Gerald a map to diamonds he took from his fellow gangsters, then frogmen on a yacht rake the beach with gunfire, and Gerald escapes. The police pay no mind to his story, so he goes to the San Diego hotel where Syd said the diamonds are hidden, and meets Suzie Cartwright, a stewardess for an airline. Searching the hotel means dodging its manager and detectives, and the gangsters who want the diamonds are hunting him too.
