Plot summary
Madison Taylor is waiting tables on the night shift in San Juan, Puerto Rico, when a bleeding man comes up to her. Two other men arrive and shoot him, and a round catches Madison in the thigh. Lt. Steve Wakes, a police lieutenant whose partner has just been killed, brings her to a nearby hospital, where the bullet has to be removed because it is the only evidence that can identify the shooters. Wakes tells her the man who approached her was a detective and his partner. Madison has to stay overnight, and she is moved to an empty floor of the hospital that is closed off, with a security guard posted there.
