Plot summary
Eight-year-old Bonnie's parents give her a frog-themed tablet, Lilypad, in the hope that she will spend time with other children. Bonnie soon grows absorbed in the device and starts to neglect her toys. Jessie, her favorite and the new leader among them, tells Lily that the girl needs a real friend, and Lily answers by sending a friend request to Chelsea, a classmate of Bonnie's. Fearing she is losing Bonnie, Jessie reaches Woody by walkie-talkie. Woody, meanwhile, has been away with Bo Peep, finding homes for discarded toys, and believing Jessie needs him, he sets out to return. When Chelsea invites Bonnie for a sleepover, Jessie and Bullseye hide inside the suitcase while Bonnie packs Lily. Elsewhere, a cargo ship of high-tech Buzz Lightyear toys wrecked on a deserted island still runs in demonstration mode.

- Animating the horse character Daffodil took Pixar more than a year of building, rigging and simulation; the studio brought a real horse onto its campus for animators to study and invented a new technique it called "invertible rigging" to make the process work.
- Toy Story 5 was the first feature film to use Pixar's new RenderMan XPU renderer, which runs on both CPUs and GPUs at once and let artists see interactive, full-frame renders roughly nine times faster.
- Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff wrote and produced the soundtrack single "I Knew It, I Knew You," which topped the Billboard Hot 100 as Disney's third number-one song, Pixar's first ever, and Swift's fifteenth.
- Taylor Swift finished writing and producing the song and personally presented it to Disney CEO Bob Iger and Walt Disney Music president Tom MacDougall only hours after attending an advance screening of the film.
- The film recast several classic voices lost since the last installment: Jeff Bergman and Anna Vocino step in for Don Rickles and Estelle Harris, who died in 2017 and 2022, as Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, and Ernie Hudson takes over Combat Carl from Carl Weathers, who died in 2024.
- Porsche marked the release by unveiling three custom 911 cars themed after Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Jessie, each to be auctioned off with proceeds going to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, the American Red Cross and the Starlight Children's Foundation.
