Plot summary
Over an idyllic American house, a title card announces a fictional series called Too Many Cooks and the theme song starts. The credits, modeled on the openings of 1970s and 1980s sitcoms, present the Cook household as its members go through their wholesome routines: parents, children, a grandmother, and then a widening line of relatives, a bully and a cool neighbor kid. The list of names and faces grows well past the length of a real theme, and the phrase too many cooks repeats until it begins to sound like gibberish. Among the people parading through the sequence, a grimy figure stands hidden in the background.

- Casper Kelly filmed Too Many Cooks over just three days in October 2013 with a cast made entirely of extras from the Atlanta area, then spent a full year on post-production, recruiting friends and co-workers to help him.
- The fake opening credits used most of the cast members' real names, and according to Katie Adkins the actors were never handed a clearly explained script but were coached on the go in a somewhat nonchalant manner.
- The short was ineligible for the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film because it never had a cinematic release, although director Rian Johnson said, "no joke", that it should have been nominated for that Oscar.
- In March 2015 CNN made its own parody of Too Many Cooks to mock the sheer number of potential candidates in the 2016 United States presidential election.
- In October 2025 the Catalan comedy show Polònia parodied the short to mock Salvador Illa's promise to build an immeasurable number of homes, cramming as many people as possible into one flat and reusing the same theme song.
