Plot summary
In Sweetly, Minnesota, high school senior Summer Field attends the Spring Fling while a masked killer called the Sweetly Slasher has already murdered her friends Emmy, Brian and Val. Twenty-one years later, her younger sister Lucy feels invisible in the rundown town, where her parents mark the anniversary of Summer's death. Lucy spots a light in a hay barn, finds a time machine and is thrown back to 2003, two days before Summer is killed. She goes to her science teacher for advice, and Quinn, a student who overhears her, objects that time travel is too irresponsible. After Lucy saves him from a senior prank, he agrees to help her refuel the machine, and she talks her way into the Field house to meet Summer.
