Plot summary
Pin-Jui grows up poor in Huwei, called tiger tail, and after his father dies he is sent to his grandparents' rice field, where he meets Yuan Lee. The two reconnect as adults and begin a romance, but he works in a factory beside his mother, Minghua, and believes he cannot marry Yuan. When the factory owner suggests he meet his daughter Zhenzhen, Pin-Jui agrees, and after Minghua hurts her hand at work he marries Zhenzhen and flies to America with her. In a small apartment he finds work at a grocery store while Zhenzhen keeps house, and the two struggle to connect. Their daughter, Angela, grows up distant from her father.
