Plot summary
In the town of Venus, Oregon, Maya and Ryan stop for a meal at Carol's Diner while driving to Portland, where Maya has a job interview, and the two are marking five years together. The locals are hostile, and a missing persons poster for a man named Jeff hangs on the diner wall. When their car will not start, the mechanic Rudy promises to fix it by morning. Shelly, who waits tables at the diner, takes them to an Airbnb cabin in the woods for the night. A young woman knocks at the door asking whether Tamara is home, and the couple sends her away. Ryan realizes he left his inhaler in the car and rides back to town on a motorcycle from the cabin, leaving Maya alone in the house.
