Plot summary
Lou Torrey, a gritty detective who works on his own, catches a case that begins with the death of a former hit man. The circumstances show that whoever ordered the killing came from inside the Mafia. Torrey follows the trail to Al Vescari, a Sicilian don who has waited decades for payback over the mafiosi gunned down on one day in 1931. Vescari's counter-strike is aimed at the current heads of the Italian and Jewish syndicates across the country, and his shooters are teams of Vietnam veterans rather than Mafia gunmen. The clues Torrey collects point to a plot that sounds impossible.

- Stunt coordinator Alan Gibbs was seriously injured while filming the parking-garage shootout at the film's climax: his seat-belt snapped and his head struck the steering wheel during one of the many car crashes. The cars were rented from Hertz, which sent a representative to the set to reclaim them over the damage.
