Plot summary
Rita Mancuso is eleven years old and lives in Balata, in Sicily. In 1985 a rival Mafia family assassinates her father, Don Michele, and she sees it happen. Six years later the Mafia kills her brother too. Rita keeps diaries. Determined to avenge the murders, she breaks the code of silence and brings her diaries to an anti-Mafia prosecutor in Palermo as evidence. Forced to flee her village, she is put into witness protection.
