Plot summary
Mathayus is the son of Ashur of Akkad, and he trains with the Black Scorpions, the elite warriors of Emperor Hammurabi, to avenge his father's death at the hands of Sargon, who takes the throne. Now a master swordsman, Mathayus is ordered by Sargon to kill his own brother Noah; he frees him instead and they flee the city, but Sargon's magic kills Noah on the road. Mathayus and his childhood friend Layla sail for Egypt, hoping to find a weapon that can pass through Sargon's protection. A Greek poet, Aristophanes, called Ari, tells them the Sword of Damocles is what they need, and that it lies in the Underworld, which they can only enter through a portal in Greece.
