Plot summary
Jacob Kanon is a veteran New York City police detective, desperate for justice after his daughter and her new husband are killed in London on their honeymoon. He goes there to identify their bodies and begins asking who killed them. When couples in other European cities are attacked in the same manner, the investigation spreads across the continent, and the killer sends picture postcards to journalists announcing each coming crime. Jacob recruits Dessie Lombard, an American journalist working in Sweden. A German inspector, Klau Bublitz, joins the inquiry as it widens. The postcards go to journalists who appear to be chosen at random.
