Plot summary
Freshman Alex Dall takes the same physics exam more than once at Wellington College, then sets out to join the novice rowing program. After the first training session the sport fills her thoughts, down to the form a rower repeats in the boat. Jamie Brill, another freshman, is rowing toward an athletic scholarship and is quickly named the best novice on the squad, which fuels Alex's drive. Alex's aim is a place in the 1V boat, where the team's strongest rowers sit, and her times improve as her coursework slips.
