Plot summary
After Ethan's parents die in a car crash in 2001, his two closest friends, Isaac and Chris, make a pact to be with him every Christmas Eve. The three keep the ritual going for years. By 2015, Chris is a famous football player and Isaac has a wife and a baby on the way, and both men doubt that Ethan, a struggling musician in dead-end jobs, can handle the end of the tradition. At work Ethan finds tickets to the Nutcracker Ball, an exclusive party, and takes them. Before the friends go out, Isaac's pregnant wife Betsy hands him recreational drugs, and Chris buys marijuana from Mr. Green, the dealer they knew in high school. At a karaoke bar they run into Diana, who ended things with Ethan three months earlier, and her friend Sarah.
