Biography

Constance Towers, born in Whitefish, Montana, is an American performer whose career has moved between movies, Broadway, and television. Talent scouts found her as a child, and she worked in radio before training at Juilliard and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Her early films include a debut in Bring Your Smile Along (1955) and her first leading part, in John Ford's The Horse Soldiers (1959), followed by Ford's Sergeant Rutledge (1960). Samuel Fuller cast her in Shock Corridor (1963) and gave her the lead in The Naked Kiss (1964). From the mid-1960s she concentrated on theater, making her Broadway debut in Anya and playing Anna in The King and I opposite Yul Brynner. On television she played Clarissa McCandless on Capitol and Helena Cassadine on General Hospital, and she earned two Emmy nominations. Later screen credits include The Next Karate Kid (1994), The Relic (1997), and A Perfect Murder (1998).
