Plot summary
In 2005, Earl Stone, a Korean War veteran and a prize-winning daylily grower, chooses a lifetime achievement award over his daughter Iris's wedding. Iris cuts him off, and his wife Mary divorces him. Twelve years on, his flower business has failed and the bank has foreclosed on his house. He attends his granddaughter Ginny's wedding rehearsal, keeping his troubles to himself. A cartel member, alerted by a former employee of his, approaches him there. Earl agrees to drive, and bags of cocaine travel between Texas and Illinois in his truck. His age, his clean record and his care with driving law keep him clear of suspicion, and the money restores his home, the VFW post and Ginny's wedding and tuition. In Chicago, DEA agent Colin Bates and his partner Treviño hunt the cartel's most productive driver.
