Peter McEnery
Biography
Peter McEnery, born in Walsall, Staffordshire, is an English actor who has retired from stage and film work. He played Barrett in Victim (1961), a young man targeted by blackmailers, and shared the screen with Hayley Mills in The Moon-Spinners (1964). In 1966 he led Disney's The Fighting Prince of Donegal, and in 1970 he headlined the costly adventure The Adventures of Gerard, a commercial failure. That same year he portrayed Mr Sloane in Entertaining Mr. Sloane. His television credits include Edwin Clayhanger in a dramatization of Arnold Bennett's novels. With the Royal Shakespeare Company he took the title part in Pericles, Prince of Tyre in 1979 and appeared in the 1982 epic Nicholas Nickleby. He was Oberon in the BBC Television Shakespeare version of A Midsummer Night's Dream in 1981, and played the surgeon Treves at the National Theatre in The Elephant Man in 1980.
