Plot summary
John Mitchell is a test pilot at the Conway Aero-Manufacturing Company in Wolverhampton, where he lives with his wife Mary and their two young sons. He refuses to raise the family's offer on a house he says they cannot afford. What Mary does not know is that the firm is nearly bankrupt: owner Reginald Conway needs buyer Ashmore to place an order, and the company's capital is tied up in the single uninsured prototype. Ashmore says he is close to accepting a deal. Mitchell flies the plane with a full cargo of heavy vehicles, carrying Ashmore and Ministry official Crabtree. During the test, an engine catches fire.
