Catherine Lacey
Biography
Catherine Lacey was an English actress who performed on stage and in films. Born in London, she made her first stage appearance in 1925 with Mrs Patrick Campbell in The Thirteenth Chair and reached the West End the following year in Cock o' the Roost. She spent the mid 1930s with the Stratford and Old Vic companies, went back to the Old Vic in 1951 and 1962, and in 1967 joined the Royal Shakespeare Company, where her parts included Volumnia in Coriolanus and, in All's Well That Ends Well, the Countess of Rousillon. Her screen debut came in 1938 as the nun in high heels in Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes. Among her later films were I Know Where I'm Going! (1945), Whisky Galore! (1949) and The Servant (1963). In 1968 her performance in The Sorcerers brought her a best actress award from the Trieste Science Fiction Film Festival, and she made her last screen appearance in 1973.
