Plot summary
The New York sales office lives on its quarterly numbers, and a new product is still months away. Ted Riker is the top salesman there, a cynic who left college literature teaching after a failed love, profane with colleagues and working alone. Jamie Bashant arrives from the Midwest as a rookie, who has come to town with his fiancée Belisa, and Ted is told to train him. Jamie stumbles through pitch after pitch, and the coaching Ted gives him does not help. Belisa admires Ted's success and his confident manner, and the interest between them goes both ways.
