Plot summary
Jessica James is an aspiring playwright in New York whose submissions keep being rejected. She has recently split from her boyfriend Damon, and although she tries meeting someone through Tinder she is not convinced by it, having arranged one date in the hope of running into Damon and making him jealous. She works with children at a theater workshop in Hell's Kitchen and takes a waitressing job at a Manhattan event arranged by her friend Tasha, where she tells anyone who will listen about her problems. Tasha pairs her with Boone, a divorced app designer supported by the app he built. The date starts badly because Jessica is bluntly honest, and the two trade stories of his divorce and her breakup. It goes well anyway, and they spend the night together.
