Plot summary
Brian Reader, 76, is the Guvnor of a gang of four elderly thieves. They plan to break into the Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Company, an underground facility in central London. Its deposit boxes are reported to hold as much as £200 million. The men intend to enter through a lift shaft over the Easter bank holiday weekend and bore through the vault's thick walls with an industrial power drill. A planner known only as XXX takes his orders from Erzebet Zslondos, a Hungarian mobster.

The film's ringleader, known only as XXX, escapes justice, which at the time of shooting matched real life: the man behind him, Michael Seed, known as 'Basil', was later convicted of burglary and conspiracy to burgle and jailed for ten years and eight years, to run concurrently.- Brian Reader, the 76-year-old ringleader played by Larry Lamb in the film, had a criminal record going back to a first conviction in 1975 and had previously laundered the proceeds of the 1983 Brink's-Mat robbery.
