Plot summary
A technician on the Groundstar space project, John Welles, tries to steal miniaturized rocket fuel system plans held in the project's computer facility. The attempt fails, an explosion he set leaves him badly disfigured, and he barely gets away. He collapses at a vacation home belonging to Nicole Devon, who calls an ambulance. The authorities take him, and after surgery Tuxan, a government official, questions him at length. Welles says he recalls neither the crime nor his life, only short dreams of children by the ruins of a Greek temple and of a woman struggling in water. Tuxan's methods include electro-shock, water submersion and threats of execution, and Welles holds to his story.

- Filming began in Vancouver on 2 August 1971 with Carol White as the female lead, but she asked to be released shortly after it started and was replaced by Christine Belford, because a production delay put her at risk of missing the start date on Made.
- Douglas Heyes was to have filmed the adaptation as The Alien with Robert Stack, Geneviève Bujold and David Janssen starring, but Bujold left the project, which caused shooting delays and a new cast.
