Michael Sarrazin
Biography
Michael Sarrazin was a Canadian actor who moved from television work in Toronto into leading Hollywood film roles from the late 1960s through the 1970s. Born in Quebec City and raised in Montreal from childhood, he acted in school plays and landed his first professional role at 17, later training at the Actors Studio in New York City. After appearing on series such as Festival and Wojeck and in a taped Romeo and Juliet with Geneviève Bujold, he signed a contract with MCA Universal and relocated to Los Angeles. His breakthrough came with the Sydney Pollack drama They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969), which earned nine Oscar nominations, and he had the lead in The Flim-Flam Man (1967). He shifted increasingly to television work, with roles in Beulah Land and episodes of The Outer Limits and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He was nominated for a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe and a Gemini Award.
