The Good Heart (2009) on Netflix

Plot summary

Jacques runs a small bar, drinks and smokes heavily, and has survived several heart attacks. Lucas is a homeless young man whose suicide attempt has put him in the hospital, where he and Jacques share a room. Jacques tracks him down afterward and offers him a place at the bar and lessons in tending it. Lucas keeps his own way with the customers, talking to them and sharing what he has, while Jacques wants a successor who shares his scorn for the patrons. When April, a young French woman who dropped out of flight-attendant training, turns up cold, Lucas lets her stay in his room and Jacques tells him to send her away.
