Plot summary

Josh Peters is twelve, and a giant mall in his town has crushed the local economy, putting his family's home at risk. His father has decided the family must move, and Marley, Josh's dog, cannot come with them. Josh wants to keep both the house and his dog, and he does not know how. Then Marley unearths a golden medallion bearing directions to a local legend: gold the Conquistadors left behind. Josh and Ana, a girl new to town, set out into the deep woods after it. Wade and Scarecrow, two hoodlums the authorities are already after, want the same gold.
