When the summer holidays arrive, the police in Saint-Tropez begin a major campaign against dangerous drivers, and Maréchal Cruchot throws himself into the work with enthusiasm. Chasing a speeding Mercedes, he commits driving offenses himself and is severely reprimanded. He later finds the same car parked outside his barracks and is determined to bring the driver to book. The driver proves to be Josépha, the widow of a police colonel who was highly regarded. The two meet, and Cruchot falls in love with her instantly.
