Plot summary
When his fiancée leaves for five weeks of work in London, the art dealer Adrien chooses to spend the summer at a house his rich friend Rodolphe has rented near Saint-Tropez. Reading and swimming are his plan, and his old friend Daniel, a painter, is already there. A third guest, Haydée, has been bedding Rodolphe and brings a different man home every night. The two men join forces to ban any more of them and mock her as a collector of men. Adrien then turns his charm on her, telling her his moral code forbids him from sleeping with her and that she should try Daniel instead.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about La Collectionneuse (1967)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Éric Rohmer shot La Collectionneuse with no budget and out of order while he waited for Jean-Louis Trintignant to be free for My Night at Maud's. He and cinematographer Nestor Almendros possibly drew on that structure for techniques they used in later films: heavy rehearsal, few takes, natural light.
- Néstor Almendros wrote in his autobiography A Man with a Camera that the film had to have a natural look whether they wanted it to or not, because they had only five photoflood lamps.
- The production used so little film that the laboratories processing it mistook the footage for the rushes of a short film.
- La Collectionneuse was the fourth entry in Éric Rohmer's Six Moral Tales series and the first film the director made in colour.
