Plot summary
Antoine Doinel and Christine are married and living in a small Paris apartment her parents found for them. She gives violin lessons at home; he dyes carnations in the courtyard for flower shops. When his experiments with coloring agents go wrong, he loses the job and is hired by an American hydraulics company whose owner mistakes a rival candidate's letter of recommendation for his own. His work is demonstrating model boats in a mock-up harbor. Christine has a baby boy, registered as Alphonse by Antoine though she wanted Ghislain. At the harbor he meets Kyoko, a client's daughter, who plays with the boats and drops a bracelet in the water without saying so.
