Plot summary

Jonathan Drake has a vision of three floating skulls and has his daughter Alison send a telegram to his brother Kenneth, who is sixty, saying he will visit on Thursday. Before he arrives, a tall, long-haired man whose lips are sewn shut pricks Kenneth with a bamboo stiletto, and Kenneth dies. Police Lt. Jeff Rowan is called, and Dr. George Bradford determines the cause of death to be cardiovascular disease. At Kenneth's, Jonathan demands that the closed coffin be opened. The body inside has no head.
