Plot summary
Harold Gern, a New York businessman who is constantly in legal trouble, is vacationing in Puerto Rico with his wife, Evelyn. His lawyer, Martin Joyce, arrives to talk over the latest indictment. Harold brings Martin along on a boat trip, and the three try out newly bought scuba diving equipment. When they come back up, they cannot breathe without their tanks. They row ashore, cross the jungle, and find that the foliage gives off oxygen they can take in. In town nobody is left alive and the radio carries no news. The three consider that they may be the only survivors in the area, perhaps on earth, and start working out how to live self-sufficiently, with the men fishing, since sea creatures have survived.
