Howard Wendell
Biography
Howard Wendell was an American actor whose career took in stage, film, and television. A native of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, he was raised in Elyria, Ohio, attended Ohio University, and apprenticed at the Cleveland Playhouse. He appeared on Broadway in The Great Campaign in 1947 and, in 1950, in The Show Off, Arms and the Man, and The Curious Savage, followed by Make a Wish in 1951. He also performed at theaters in Phoenix, La Jolla, Hollywood, and San Francisco, and earned a gold cup for being named the best actor of 1946 at Rhode Island's Newport Casino Theatre. Beginning in 1949 he made film appearances but worked mainly in television, on series including Dragnet, Perry Mason, Wagon Train, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Batman, The Munsters, Leave It to Beaver, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and The Big Valley. He made his last screen appearance on Adam-12.
