Plot summary
Bianca Piper is a senior at a suburban Atlanta high school, where she spends her days with her two more popular best friends, Jess and Casey. At a party hosted by Madison Morgan, the school's mean girl, Bianca's neighbor Wesley Rush tells her that everyone sees her as the DUFF, or Designated Ugly Fat Friend: the approachable one classmates use to get closer to her friends. Insulted, Bianca cuts Jess and Casey off on social media. Wesley is failing chemistry and could lose his place on the football team, while Bianca wants a different social standing and wants to talk to Toby, the guitar player she likes. She offers a trade: she tutors Wesley if he helps her change her image.
