Plot summary
Sarah Carter comes out of an uncharted cave system in the Appalachians alone, traumatized, coated in blood and with no memory of what took place there. A doctor notes that part of the blood on her is the same type as Juno, one of the women who never came back. Sheriff Vaines and his deputy Rios reject her account of creatures in the dark, so she is sent back underground with three pothole specialists, Dan, Greg and Cath. An old man named Ed works the mine shaft they use to get in. Close to the entrance the group finds Rebecca's body, and Sarah flashes back to earlier events. Vaines thinks she is to blame for the other women's disappearance.
