Plot summary

Russel Marsh and his pregnant wife Ingrid welcome Alex and Petri to the beachfront house the couple has rented in Oxnard, California, a stay that is meant to carry them past a miscarriage. The hosts bring the newcomers around to meet the local residents, who behave strangely and act strangely familiar with them. Petri grows distant after a boat trip with Russel, and Alex has disturbing visions and encounters, among them a visit from Doctor Gene Rayburn, who insists on invasive health checks. At a neighborhood gathering, the residents' rituals come into view, centered on the worship of an ancient sea god.
