Plot summary
Title cards announce that a special from the American News Network is carried in full by a Canadian network because of the severity of its accusations. The anchor says the report follows two years of investigation and warns viewers about its content. Clips of early Canadian figures in Hollywood show that a strong national identity, and a refusal to tolerate jokes about Canada's weather, kept them from blending in. During a 1948 state visit, Harry Truman told William Lyon Mackenzie King a joke about a Canadian ice fisherman, and King vowed to avenge the insult. King could not persuade Mary Pickford or other Canadians to leave their American careers, and he resigned. His successor, Louis St. Laurent, recruited the country's best people and sent them to infiltrate the new American television industry.
