Plot summary
North Carolina's 14th district has sent Cam Brady to Congress four times, and he expects to keep the seat again without an opponent. Then his affair with a supporter is heard on a phone call, and his poll numbers fall. With eight weeks before the election, the corrupt businessmen Glenn and Wade Motch decide Cam no longer has the spark they need, and they persuade Marty Huggins, a tour guide who runs the Hammond Chamber of Commerce, to run against him as the Republican nominee. Marty's father, Raymond Huggins, is a former North Carolina senator whose name is known among conservative voters, and the Motches want a candidate who will help them bring a Chinese company's factory to the district. After Cam humiliates Marty at a brunch, the Motches' consultant Tim Wattley remakes his image.
