Plot summary

A brutal fighter, Pete Wright, is in line for a world title until an injury puts him out of action. Jimmy Connelly, a milkman and amateur boxer, is put into the championship fight as the replacement contender. Jimmy's manager is Herbie Bush, and his opponent is Jose Mendez, the middleweight champion of the world. In the build-up, Bush recommends that Jimmy give Mendez fighting talk at a press conference, and Jimmy is then seen as a fascist and a disgrace to England.
